This story has helped me focus on where I want to study at Clark. While I didn’t like these experiences at the time instead of being bitter I have used them to make me want to become a change in the world. My high school has made me want to help people with my life and to become some of the teachers who have influenced who I am today.
You told the story very well and I could feel your frustration with your guidance department. It seems that nearly every high school has some sort of a problem with not follow 504’s or simply not listening to students, even though their job is to help you feel comfortable at school. I wonder how yours, and many others, high school experiences may be different if guidance had kept him out of your classes.
I am so sorry that your school dismissed your experiences and did not make you feel comfortable, as school is supposed to be a safe space. I am glad that some of your teachers were able to come to a better solution and went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. From these experiences that you had in high school, do you think that you would want to teach high school?
