Artist statement: The goal of this film is to combat certain cultural narratives that drive parents and students to make decisions about what schools to favor, and avoid. By informing people about the more complex mechanisms behind what resources a given private or public school has at their disposal, and how they may choose to allocate them, we hope to help people make better informed decisions and dispel illusions about the distinctions between these two types of schools. The different areas of academic focus which can be emphasized or neglected by a given school through how they choose to allocate funds also will greatly affect whether or not a school is a good fit for a given student, public or private. In general we want to combat the notions that either type of school is a monolith, and some specific ideas that all private schools have certain advantages over public ones.
