I liked how you discussed a lot of the characters individually and also as part of the larger context, and also how you included some of the actor’s backgrounds. A question I would ask would be whether you think the movie would have benefitted if the mother had been represented as well.
Mary – this was phenomenal! You did a wonderful job showing how To All the Boys is both hegemonic and counter-hegemonic. You really reflected on the duality of how this film can simultaneously be enjoyable and problematic/needing improvement. I liked how your main focus was on race, but you also included analyses of sexuality, gender, etc. As well as, how you looked at race from different perspectives, such as in casting, in relationships, in each character, the movie’s social impact, and within the plot. Your choice of clips also really assisted these explanations, especially if someone had not seen the movies before. Great work!
