Our final project is a claymation short-film depicting the beauty and gentleness of trans love; which we hope would function as a powerful representation of queer love, for trans and queer people. Our film is a love story between two characters, Blue and Orange, inspired by one of the creators’ personal love stories and influenced by the other creators’ unique perceptions/experiences of love. This film functions as an expression of the universality of love; and works to represent trans love with regard to its beautiful intimate moments. It rejects the notion that trans love must include some form of a complication relating to the character’s gender identity in order to have accurate and/or beautiful representation; in that way our film is counter hegemonic. As creators who all identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, we intentionally worked to invite the audience into the process of falling in love; to express the idea that love is a universal experience. We wanted the audience to fall in love alongside Blue and Orange to articulate the beauty and blessing that is queer love; we did this by making our claymation a silent film and being purposeful with our song choices, to truly encapsulate dreaminess and tenderness of this love story.
