I’m a big fan of this show so was interested to see an analysis of it. I definitely agree that it is counter-hegemonic in some ways yet remains hegemonic in terms of diversity as you pointed out. I also think that it some ways the show teeters on romanticizing taboo topics such as sexually abuse and mental health.
I have never seen this show, but I have always been interested in seeing it! I really liked how you incorporated scenes to explain the shows summary and appreciated how in your analysis you describe what the show focuses on as well as what was missing.
I had never seen this show before but you did a nice job of summarizing the series! I liked how you addressed both what was missing and what was covered. I think a lot of the times mental health is not discussed for men and focusing on this in your vlog was very important!
I found your analysis to be both detailed and succinct. I think it would be interesting to see a show like this with a more diverse cast as you mentioned. I have not watched the show before but I found your quick summary of the characters very helpful to get a better picture of who they are. I love shows that are raw and can be realistic because in a way it is comforting to see others (actors/characters) go through something similar to you, a friend, loved one, etc. If you like Normal People you may like Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
