“food trauma” by Julia, Mary, and Tara

“Food Trauma” is a short film that focuses on the childhood experiences of Asian-American individuals concerning their school lunches. As 3 Asian American students, we aim to highlight and respectfully present the stories of several other Asian students who have grown up and gone to school in America. Through interviews with Asian American students, we highlight the shared and unique stories of the consumption of Asian culture in the Western world. The perception of Asian culture, food, and media has starkly changed throughout the years, as it was once viewed as disgusting and unappealing, and is now seen and consumed as trendy and popular foods. The purpose of this film is to delve into the evolution of Asian culture and food trends in America, and to discuss the way it has affected many Asian Americans.
